How much for a tattoo?

This might be the most frequently asked question in our industry, and although every artist has encountered it, there is no simple answer. This question is the gift that keeps on giving because it raises many more questions:

How big do you want the tattoo?

Is it color or black and gray?

How intricate is the design?

Which body part are you looking to get tattooed?

And many more.

We may not be able to provide an exact price without more information, but we can help you get an idea of how much your tattoo will approximately cost.

Most shops have a shop minimum. For us, it’s $100, which is common in the area. Shop minimum tattoos are small, simple designs that take between 15 and 45 minutes.

Tattoos that can be completed in one session (less than 8 hours) are usually quoted by the piece, depending on the design, style, and size.

Multi-session tattoos, such as back pieces, sleeves, and half-sleeves, are quoted on an hourly basis. Our artists limit their sessions to 8 hours, which includes skin preparation, stencil placement, and short breaks for stretching. The common hourly rates around Nashville range from $150 to $200 per hour.

How do I set up my appointment?

There are different ways to set up an appointment with our artists:

The easiest way is to visit the shop. To ensure the artist you wish to speak with is available that day, please call us in advance.

Alternatively, you can email us at contact@tattoocornucopia.com. Please include a brief description of your tattoo, the desired size, placement, color preference (color or black and gray), and any reference pictures.

Visit our Contact page to fill out the form and begin the booking process.

Can I get tattooed as a minor with parental consent?

In the state of Tennessee, it is prohibited for individuals who are under the age of 18 to receive tattoos.

How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

For your appointment, make sure to rest well the night before and enjoy a healthy breakfast.

If you’re on a restrictive diet, please set it aside on the day of your tattoo. Tattoo days are cheat days.

Limit your morning coffee intake to prevent increased anxiety and reduced pain tolerance. Stay well-hydrated the day before your tattoo by drinking a gallon of water.

There’s no need to shave the area before getting a tattoo. Our artist will handle all skin preparation just before starting.

Can I bring somebody to sit with me while I am getting tattooed?

It’s the artist’s choice whether they feel comfortable with an additional person in their room. Be sure to contact your artist in advance to understand their policies.

How should I care for my new tattoo?

Proper aftercare is crucial. Our artists will deliver aftercare guidelines at the end of your tattoo session. Each artist may have their own approach to aftercare, but here are the key essentials:

Most of our tattoos are protected with a Tegaderm bandage, also called second skin. Keep this bandage on for three days.

On the third day, carefully remove it and wash your tattoo thoroughly with antibacterial, unscented soap, such as Dial Gold.

After washing, gently pat it dry with a clean towel, then allow it to air dry for about 20 minutes.

Next you want to apply a thin layer of a water-based lotion, such as Lubriderm.

Repeat that whole process twice a day for approximately two weeks.

Avoid water activities and sun exposure for two weeks. Showers are permissible.
